What Can Fleets Do About Climate Change
Three-day Event Covers Alternative Fuels/Powertrains/Technology
The subject matter is as broad as the challenges facing the modern fleet manager. The 10th annual Green Transportation Summit & Expo (GTSE) returns to Tacoma, Wash., April 13-15, and will offer attendees opportunities to learn more about subjects ranging from alternative fuels like renewable hydrogen to DERA grants.
One major focus of this year’s program will be on various strategies for heavy-duty diesel emission reductions. Keynote speakers from Daimler, Toyota and Volvo will discuss battery electric and fuel cell electric products that are coming to market while fleet managers will lay out strategies for fleet transitions, addressing concerns and offering lessons learned from their progress so far.
GTSE, which is held in collaboration with the West Coast Collaborative (WCC), a public-private partnership led by Regions 9 and 10 of the U.S. EPA. The WCC is working to reduce diesel emissions, will also include sessions for fleet technician training as well as information-packed meetings dealing with the latest policy and technology issues. The Expo display will return as a marketplace of information and ideas with a range of vehicle and fuel types.
Pre-Summit Events
Before GTSE starts there are several events of interest to fleet managers. On Monday, April 13, GTSE and the Renewable Hydrogen Alliance will present the all-day Renewable Power to Clean Fuels Symposium, discussing hydrogen technologies, policy, commercial development and the role the of molecule in decarbonizing the energy sector.
Also on Monday is Nevtex will offer an all-day program on the Method to Create an SAE Certification for Technicians Working with High Voltage and High Pressure Systems, a critical need to enable the growth of electrified vehicles. Two other programs that day include a Pathways to Electrification workshop and a DERA Grant 101 & Alternative Fuels 101 workshop.
Monday afternoon GTSE will host its traditional ride-and-drive of vehicles prior to the opening reception at the LeMay—America’s Car Museum.
Summit Highlights
At the Summit a mix of plenary sessions addressing broader industry issues and a variety of breakout sessions will fill the next two days. Opening the GTSE will be two plenary panels—one exploring Innovations in Sustainable Transportation and another discussing Medium- and Heavy-Duty Electrification.
Breakout sessions in the morning and afternoon will cover topics ranging from Pathways to Zero Emission Port and Freight Operations to Workforce Development to Clean Fuel Programs and a session where fleet manager peers will share their experiences with alternative fuels.
The second-day plenary session will address Federal Funding: 2020 & Beyond while breakout sessions will delve into topics such as a Gaseous Fuel Vehicles Showcase, Railroad Emissions Reduction Strategies and an extended program reviewing the DOE National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL)’s approach to Total Cost of Ownership analysis.
The Exhibit Hall will be open both days and the site of a networking reception Tuesday evening. Registration for the program and more detailed information can be accessed here.
