Four Automakers Roll Out New Models

Once again Hyundai, Kia, Subaru and Volkswagen offered-up a look at what will be arriving in their dealerships soon. We also saw a beast of a concept SUV and were told a new midsize pickup is coming. Intrigued? This is what was shown, in alphabetical order, at this year’s New York International Auto Show, April 3 – 12 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

  • Hyundai Boulder Concept

Hyundai Boulder concept–solid as a rock

Hyundai rolled-out a beast of an off-road SUV it calls the Boulder. This wild design study will be a body-on-frame truck, the first on a platform Hyundai will be designing in America. The ladder-frame-style chassis says Hyundai is really serious about upping its off-road vehicle offerings to a new more rugged level. SangYup Lee, executive vice president, head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Center, Hyundai Motor Company, told us: “We are confident something like this ultra-capable Hyundai SUV concept could more than fulfill the needs of this exclusive group of adventure seekers.”

Production date or pricing were not released, so don’t rush to your Hyundai dealer asking for a test drive.

  • Hyundai 2030 Unnamed Midsize Pickup

Hyundai has been selling the Santa Cruz compact pickup in America since 2022. The Santa Cruz shares a platform with the Tucson SUV. While it has an open bed, it rides more similar to a car than truck. However, with the above announcement of Hyundai designing body-on-frame SUVs, it makes it fairly certain the unnamed midsize pickup will be body-on-frame and most likely a ladder-frame-style chassis.

2030 means this truck will be on-sale (at an unknown price) in Hyundai dealers sometime in the latter half of 2029. If you want a Hyundai pickup and have a pickup coming off lease in the next few years, maybe it makes sense to wait for this truck.

2027 Kia Seltos

The Kia Seltos has gone through an extensive reimagining in its boxy upright design delivering more passenger room and cargo space. Getting design inspiration from the all-new Telluride, the second generation Seltos now has three engine options, including a new hybrid.

The familiar 2.0-liter non-turbo and the 1.6-liter turbocharged engines are joined by the all-new 1.6-liter 4-cylinder hybrid, which should significantly increase fuel economy for the already fuel-sipping gasoline-only engines. The turbocharged 1.6L Seltos comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD) and up-to 8.1-inches of ground clearance to handle some light off-roading. The 2.0L comes with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive and the hybrid is equipped with standard front-wheel drive with all-wheel drive an option, making it the first-ever Kia hybrid SUV that drives all four wheels.

Go here to read about the new Seltos.

The all-new 2027 Kia Seltos 2.0L and 1.6T are anticipated to go on sale in the U.S. in Q2 2026, with the HEV expected to arrive in later in 2026. Pricing has not been released.

With design cues from the EV9 the compact 2027 EV3 brings rapid charging and an estimated all-electric driving range of up to 320 miles. It uses advanced technology and ADAS to appeal to all segments of the population with its utility, maneuverability and driving comfort.

The feature-rich EV3 is touted by Kia as being “affordable”. With no federal tax credit, Clean Fleet Report is estimating Kia will be targeting the mid-30K range for a base EV3.

Sales begin in late 2026 with pricing announced at that time.

  • 2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid
2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid

Subaru knowns how to make a good thing better by taking the already very off-road capable Forester Wilderness and making it more efficient and powerful by adding a hybrid engine. We recently got to experience the gasoline-engine-powered 2026 Forester Wilderness. Take what you read there and add 25% better fuel economy, more power and a longer driving distance (as much as 481 miles).

Pricing will be announced close to when the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid goes on-sale in late 2026.

  • 2027 Subaru Getaway EV

The Getaway breaks new ground for Subaru. It’s the company’s first 3-row all-electric SUV and the most powerful production Subaru model with 420 horsepower from its two electric motors. The Getaway joins the Subaru EV family, smallest to largest, of Uncharted, Solterra, TrailSeeker and now the Getaway.

Designed for families, the estimated all-electric driving range of 300 miles and fast charging should satisfy around town errands and longer road trips.

The Getaway is expected in dealers in late 2026. Until then go here to lean more about it.

The second generation Atlas has been reimagined with a refined exterior and new interior that features real wood, ambient lighting, Nappa leather seating surfaces and massaging front seats. The 3-row Atlas is geared towards families riding in comfort around town or on the open road.

Assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are an important part of Volkswagen’s lineup. The seven-seat Atlas and five-seat Atlas Cross Sport comprised 30% of sales in 2025.

Details, specifications and pricing will be announced ahead of the launch this fall.
