All-New SUV Coming in 2024

Toyota debuted the all-new 2025 Toyota Crown Signia Hybrid at the 116th Los Angeles Auto Show this week. Toyota hasn’t let anyone get behind the wheel just yet, so here is an overview of what we know so far. Clean Fleet Report will write a detailed review after having the chance to drive the Crown Signia sometime in 2024.

At a time when American drivers are losing interest in sedans, Toyota took the bold move in 2023 by introducing the all-new Crown full-size sedan, which Clean Fleet Report has reviewed here and here. The strategy at the time seemed curious, but it is now clearer as they all along had plans to bring the Crown Signia SUV hot on the tail of the sedan sibling.

The 2025 Crown Signia, available in XLE and Limited trims and what Toyota describes as an “elevated” ride, comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD) and a 2.5-liter engine and a single electric motor as part of the Toyota Hybrid System. This combination produces 243 horsepower and returns 36 miles per gallon. To optimize fuel economy, the Crown Signia has an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, with driver selectable drive modes of Normal, Eco and Sport.

Toyota has made it easy to understand when to use each mode, as Eco is for maximizing fuel and battery range, best used on the open highway; normal is for in-town driving, while Sport will improve and sharpen the feel when maximizing the use of the accelerator pedal.

The electronic on-demand AWD employs a rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels. Depending on road and driving conditions, the system can seamlessly distribute up to 80 percent of the power to the rear wheels to combat front wheel slip, such as in slippery or sloppy conditions.

Design Breaks from the Toyota Norm

The 2025 Crown Signia will look like no other Toyota SUV. The “hammerhead” front end design features the slimmest-of-slim head and daytime running lights placed on the outer edges of the wide fenders. The body color cross-hatch lower grille sits above a black fascia grille. The long hood meets the windshield at laidback A-pillars leading to a sweeping roof with a small spoiler over the power lift gate which features a kick sensor. The LED tail lights are equally as slim.

Completing the look are either 19-inch multi-spoke black-accented machine finished two-tone alloy wheels on the XLE or 21-inch dark gray metallic colored alloy wheels on the Limited. Both Crown Signia models have the choice of five exterior colors–Storm Cloud, Finish Line Red, Oxygen White, Black and Bronze Age.

Clean, Feature-Rich Interior

Toyota has made sure the XLE and Limited are equipped with the features drivers want. The 12.3-inch color touchscreen houses navigation, and SiriusXM/AM/FM HD radio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The power seats are trimmed in either leather or the synthetic fabric SofTex. A panoramic fixed-glass roof, wireless phone charger, multiple USB-C ports front and rear, front seat back pockets, and a 60:40 split folding rear seat for 6.5-feet of cargo space round out the interior.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing has not been released for the 2025 Crown Signia, but it’s scheduled to be in dealers in summer 2024.

Observations: 2025 Toyota Crown Signia

The all-new 2025 Crown Signia is the next step for Toyota on their quest to have all its vehicles come with some level of electrification. Just like the Sienna and Venza are hybrid only (Toyota is replacing the Venza with the Sigmia), the Crown Signia will be introducing people to this efficient form of driving.

There are four Crown models available in Japan. America now has two of them, so will the others cross the Pacific too?
