Fuel-Efficient Technology Has Come a Long Way

There was a time where hybrids were seen as a joke. Similar to what’s heard today about the electric car, they were deemed to be unreliable, difficult to drive, poorly designed and weak in terms of power. However, a lot has changed in the past decade and many of the conceptions that people used to have about hybrids are now myths of the past. Let’s explore some of these in a little more detail.

Hybrids Don’t Have Much Power

Again, while this might have been the case five years ago, it’s certainly not true anymore. Modestly priced hybrids from sellers like Automax Hyundai can produce as much as 150 horsepower without even breaking a sweat. That’s not even mentioning the sporty models that are available on the market. These cars are lightning fast and will give the latest gas-only cars a solid run for their money. Indeed, producers now regularly compete to see who can make the most powerful and the fastest hybrid, plug-in hybrid or EV for the market.

The Planet Can’t Sustain Hybrid Cars

There are definitely some reports floating around online that we simply can’t sustain hybrids or even EVs. Indeed, you don’t have to search far to find articles suggesting that the current number of power plants won’t provide the energy needed for everyone to start using plug-in cars. While this might be the hypothetical case right now, the situation is rapidly shifting. These cars become more efficient each year and need less and less power for the same results. Similarly, new power plants are being built that use more sustainable energy. So, while the demand for hybrids, plug-in hybrids and EVs is definitely growing, so is the tech and the infrastructure that support them. This is also true when considering the number of public charging stations for EVs and plug-in hybrids. More are built and ready to plug in each year.

They’re Not As Energy Efficient As They Seem

Another common myth about hybrid cars is that they are not as efficient as they seem. The rationale for this line of reasoning is the energy it takes to produce these vehicles, and particularly the batteries, outweighs the environmental benefits. While there has definitely been some controversy here, ultimately, hybrids still take less energy to produce than typical gas guzzlers. As such, they do provide the energy saving benefits that people want on the market.

They’re A Stop Gap

Finally, a lot of people do seem to see hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars as a stop gap between gas engines and a better solution yet to come. However, short of a groundbreaking leap forward in technology, hybrids and plug-in hybridss are likely here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. The tech will continue to advance during the next few years and the hybrids, plug-in hybrids and EVs of tomorrow may be completely unrecognizable compared to those on the road today.

We hope this helps you understand some of the common misconceptions that are just no longer relevant for hybrids. By keeping these in mind, there’ll be fewer roadblocks in your mind stopping you from finally taking the leap and purchasing a car like this for yourself.
