News: 2027 Lexus TZ EV

All-New All-Electric Three-Row SUV

Lexus invited the international media to La Jolla, California, to show-off its latest offering—the 2027 TZ EV. No seat time yet, so stay tuned for our driving review later in 2026.

The 2027 TZ is Lexus’ first all-electric three-row, six-passenger SUV. It comes in two grades (trim levels), both with standard all-wheel drive.

Lexus designed the interior for a “commitment to comfort and relaxation” with “exceptional quietness.” Since we did not drive the TZ, we can’t comment on the latter, but can say the seats, sound system and overall look, touch and feel of the interior materials should lend to a very nice cabin experience. Interior materials include Forged Bamboo and bio-based UltraSuede plant-derived fabrics.

The low floor and long wheelbase aid all passengers getting space to relax. The Captain’s Chairs, standard in the second row, are heated and ventilated and come with power lower leg Ottomans, with side power window shades. The third-row split and folding seat access is by a button on the back that folds and slides them out of the way. The panoramic roof with a power sunshade is complemented by the ambient illumination that softly lights the door panels and footwells.

Lexus’ multimedia system interface has what Lexus says is “enhanced computing power,” along with AT&T 5G Wi-Fi connectivity. The low-slung dash houses the 14.0-inch touch screen that allows for customizable widgets to speed finding content and to access the Mark Levinson 21-speaker audio system. There is also a video recorder to catch external driving activity. The voice assistant is keyed by calling-out “Hey Lexus!” to handle all sorts of vehicle functions.

All 2027 TZ EVs will have the Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 that, based on the grade, include features such as pre-collision system, front cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, lane departure alert and emergency driving stop.

Batteries, Power, Charging and All-Electric Driving Range (AER)

Lexus revealed a limited amount of information on the powertrain but did confirm dual-motor all-wheel drive and roughly 300 miles of AER range and up to 402 horsepower, depending on  trim.

The two lithium-ion battery options are 76.96 kWh and 95.82 kWh. Charge times should be 10- 80% of battery capacity in about 35 minutes when using a 150-kW charger.

A CCS charge port, on the front right fender, is hidden by a power door.

Additional charging features include:

  • battery preconditioning to optimize battery temperature for charging in cold conditions
  • driving preconditioning that adjusts battery temperature en route to be ready at charging stations
  • AC external power supply, Vehicle-To-Load (V2L), that can power items such as e-bikes, computers, lights, appliances and even a complete home in case of a power outage.

Pricing and Availability

Lexus only said “grades” (trim level) descriptions and pricing details would be available later in 2026.

Observations: 2027 Lexus TZ EV

The TZ is a major step for Lexus, offering its first all-electric three-row SUV. It does not mean they are abandoning hybrid technology, but are giving loyal Lexus owners options.
